Description / Qualifications

Our Madison client is looking for a Legal Assistant / Office Manager to help run their small but busy downtown law firm. Candidates do not need a ton of previous experience but must be exceedingly quick learners. They are looking for someone with a “Type A” personality who is obsessively detail-oriented. They anticipate this employee will only be needed for around 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
– Secretarial support
– Processing mail, faxes, and email
– Maintaining and updating attorney calendars
– Maintaining the client data base and keeping accurate financial and case file records
– Responding to questions from clients, witnesses, and court personnel
– Ordering and maintaining office supplies and equipment
– Delivering and filing documents with the court
– Opening and closing case files
– Drafting and revising routine legal forms, letters and other court documents
– Notarizing witness statements
– Conducting telephone intake interviews of potential clients
– Conflict checking
– Scheduling and coordinating conference calls, meetings and court appearances

Qualifications:
– Basic legal knowledge
– Ability to maintain confidentiality
– Commitment to courteous and sensitive interaction with clients, attorneys, and others
– Ability to handle clients who are in a time of high emotionality
– Proficiency with word processing and spread sheet software
